Specialty Show and Trial Rules
HOST SELECTION

1. The location of the Show shall be determined by a vote of the Executive Committee.

2. For the purpose of rotation of the National Specialty Show, the United States is divided into six (6) zones, identified numerically, by the Executive Committee.

a. Each zone, in numerical sequence, shall have an opportunity to be host to the National Specialty once in six (6) years.

3. Invitations

a. In the May Executive Communique, almost four (4) years prior to the date, the CCA Secretary shall announce that Zone XX is to be the host zone and invitations to host the CCA Specialty are being solicited from local clubs within the zone.

b. The CCA Secretary shall send notice of soliciting bids to each local club and District Director within Zone XX no later than May 31.

c. Bids shall be received by the CCA Secretary no later than October 31. They need to show that the National Show Chairperson has been involved in the preparation of the bid.

4. Bids

a. Bids to serve as Host for the CCA Specialty must be thoroughly presented. They need not be expensive or fancy but must include the following

1. Prior to preparing the bid the National Show Chairperson needs to be involved with all aspects of the bid preparations

2. Name and location of the club, or clubs, submitting the invitation with a copy of their constitution and by-laws, or group.

3. A list of members in each club (or in the group) and their addresses, indicating which members are members of the Collie Club of America.

4. A list of club officers and directors, indicating offices held.

5. A record of the last five(5) shows, including the number of points in both sexes and both varieties at each show, and whether shows were held independently or in conjunction with all-breed shows.

6. Proposed Show Date. Does not have to be local Club’s usual date. Written release of breed from any show giving club with conflicting dates, within a radius of 200 miles of show site, must accompany the bid. CCA Secretary will apply to AKC for the recommended Show date if bid is accepted.

7. Show site address.

a. It is recommended that the show site have a minimum of 50,000 square feet.

b. The site should be able to handle an entry of 700-1000 dogs.

c. Private exercise pens will be allowed in the grooming area. The host show committee will establish guidelines which will be publicized in pre-show publicity and in the premium list. This may include limiting the number allowed per individual exhibitor’s space, dependent on the number of dogs; the size of the pens; etc.

d. There shall be enough space for three (3) judging rings to be run simultaneously, with the obedience ring complying with the requirements set forth by the AKC.

e. Rings for herding and agility events must comply with AKC requirements. If suitable facilities are not available at the site of the conformation and obedience competitions, then the herding and/or agility events should be held at the closest appropriate facility.

f. The show site(s) must have adequate restrooms and be handicapped accessible.

g. There shall be sufficient food facilities (at all sites) to service all events each day.

8. Motel/hotel address and accommodations - availability of 200 to 250 rooms.

9. Facilities for annual meeting and banquet - minimum of 600 people.

10. Anticipation of using a Show Secretary or an AKC Licensed Superintendent.

11. Fixed responsibility if two (2) or more clubs submit joint bid.

b. Bids will be presented to the Executive Committee for review, discussion, and voting. The decision of the Executive Committee shall be announced in the February Communique.

1. The National Show Chairperson shall be responsible for inspection of show site and host hotel of each bid prior to bids being submitted to the CCA Secretary and voting by the Executive Committee.

c. The CCA Secretary shall notify all local clubs having submitted bids, the results of the Executive Committee voting.

5. The Host presenting the winning bid may then give the CCA an existing date for the National Specialty. THE WINDOW FOR THE SHOW IS FROM FEB. 1 THRU APRIL 15. If the Host is unable to meet this requirement the Show Chairman, in conjunction with the Host, shall obtain an available date from the American Kennel Club.

6. If no Club or Group is willing to serve as Host, the CCA may apply for its own show date and perform the host functions relying on individual CCA members within the zone for assistance, or may be moved to the next zone. (Time element is considered). THESE PROVISIONS ARE SUBJECT TO EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE APPROVAL.

7. The CCA President shall nominate a Host Show Chairperson for the National Specialty, after reviewing the candidates resumes, no later than sixty (60) days following Host selection, by the Executive Committee. It is recommended that, if possible, the Chairperson be a member of the Host, otherwise, reside within the Zone that is to host the National Specialty Show. THE APPOINTMENT IS SUBJECT TO EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE APPROVAL.

8. Within six (6) months of the Executive Committee approval, the Host Show Chairperson shall submit a complete written proposal for the show, which has had input from the National Show Chairperson. This proposal shall include location within the zone, budget, headquarters and facilities. (Specific requirements stated in Section IV OBLIGATIONS/ HOST). The Executive Committee shall discuss the proposal and make suggestions. Following discussion, recommendations will be considered for possible changes and submitted to the Executive Committee for final vote.

9. Within fourteen (14) months after approval, the Host Show Chairperson shall nominate all committees, with input from National Show Chairperson, which should include CCA members within the zone. Subject to individual acceptance, the Show Committee should include all District Directors residing within the Zone. Appointments will include;

a. CCA Show Rules Committee Advisor (Appointed by CCA President)

b. Obedience Chairperson

c. Herding Chairperson (if held in conjunction)

d. Herding Coordinator (if held in conjunction - See Herding Rules)

e) Agility Chairperson (if held in conjunction)

f. Facilities Chairperson

g. Treasurer

h. Secretary

i. Top Ten/Twenty Invitational Chairperson (If held in conjunction)
