Show and Trial Rules
OBLIGATIONS
1. Collie Club of America
a. The CCA Secretary shall
notify the Local Club that has been selected to host the
Specialty.
b. The CCA Secretary shall
provide a list of Judges who are eligible (see Section V,
Judges Controls) to judge conformation at this particular
Specialty. This same list shall also be included in the
Executive Committee Communique for reference when nominating
and voting for the Judges of the Specialty Show.
1. The Show Rules
Chairperson, or appointed delegate, will be responsible
for keeping a current record of the date when a Collie
judge is off AKC provisional judges status.
c. The CCA Executive
Committee shall nominate and vote for the selection of the
conformation Judges, with consideration given to the
suggestions made by the Host. (See Nomination of Judges -
Section VI).
d. CCA Secretary shall
notify the top third, minimum of four (4), of the
conformation judges from the first ballot, that they are to
be included on the final ballot for E.C. voting for
conformation judges. Include copy of Appendix C, Judges
Controls/Agreement.
e. CCA Secretary shall
notify all elected conformation Judges of their election, to
include copy of Appendix C, Judges Controls/Agreement, and
request written confirmation from elected Judges.
f. Upon confirmation of
Judges, CCA Secretary shall notify Host of Judges
acceptance. (Include selected assignment).
g. The CCA Show Rules
Committee will be responsible for the Rules and interpret
any questionable areas and will work with the Host and
National Show Chairperson to ascertain complete compliance
with the Show Rules.
h. The CCA Secretary shall
submit an application to the AKC for permission to hold the
Specialty Show on the specified date.
i. The CCA, through its
own and/or other publications, shall provide continuous
publicity for the Specialty Show as requested by the Host.
j. The CCA shall assist
the Show Committee in publicizing the show by making its
membership list available to the Show Committee and the Show
Secretary/Superintendent. All costs to be borne by the CCA.
k. CCA Secretary shall
make all arrangements with the AKC, to include payment of
Show permission fees.
l. The CCA shall provide
the Host Treasurer, upon request, with up to $5,000.00 for
up front expenses. To be handled as a loan (Expense), and
must be repaid to CCA.
1. When the established
account is drawn down to $2,500.00, by justifiable
expenses, the CCA shall replenish that amount which is
supported by receipts, up to the original $5,000.00.
2. The amounts to
replenish shall be added to the original loan.
m. The CCA will offer
various trophies. (See Trophies - Section XII).
n. In years when there is
no Sweepstakes or Futurity the CCA shall offer $500.00 for
special puppy awards to be divided as described in the
section on Trophies.
o. Should the CCA decide
to offer a Futurity in conjunction with the Specialty, the
CCA Futurity Committee will administer this function.
p. All profits/losses from
the Show will be handled in accordance with Section I,
Paragraph 6.a, page 5
2. HOST
a. In consultation with
the National Show Chairperson make all arrangements for the
presentation of the show - the show site, motel/hotel,
banquet facilities, meeting rooms, additional facilities for
herding and agility events if held, etc. The National Show
Chairperson will be involved in any bargaining regarding
room rates, site costs, etc.

Prior to signing any contracts they need to be reviewed by
the National Show Chairperson.
2. A copy of each
contract shall be sent to the treasurer, with copies to
the President, Secretary, and Show Rules
Advisor & National Show Chairperson, within two (2)
weeks of signing.
b. Prepare a layout of the
show site and a layout for the herding and agility
facilities (if held) and forward to the CCA Secretary for
submission to the AKC along with the date request. The
Disaster and Emergency Plan for the event, required by AKC,
needs to accompany the material submitted to AKC. Per AKC,
"The Plan form must be completed and filed with AKC and
will be considered part of the event application". The
Disaster and Emergency Plan form can be obtained from the
AKC Event Plans Department.
1. Obedience and Junior
Showmanship judging may be accomplished simultaneously
with the conformation judging.
2. One (1) or two (2)
conformation rings may be used for judging at the
discretion of the Host show committee.
a. For a one ring show
the ring size shall be a minimum of 80' x
100', and may be enlarged for intersex judging. For a
two ring show the ring size shall be a minimum
of 60' x 80'. They shall be arranged side by side so
that they may be enlarged into one ring for intersex
judging.
b. Arrange for a
minimum of two (2) experienced stewards for each
conformation judging ring.
1. Stewards need
considerable experience with duties of job. They
SHOULD NOT be in need of stewarding experience.
3. Provide space for a
holding or waiting ring for each conformation ring.
4. Provide ample space
for equipment set-up and grooming.
a. Private exercise
pens will be allowed in grooming area.
b. The grooming area
should be easily accessible for unloading and loading.
c. The grooming area
should be easily accessible to the show rings.
d. The grooming area
shall be well lighted and should have water outlets
available.
e. The grooming area
must have an abundance of trash containers to allow the
exhibitors to keep their area clean. These containers
MUST be emptied frequently to prevent air pollution.
5. There should be
seating, with good visibility, for at least 400
spectators.
a. Provide for the
wheel chair bound and otherwise handicapped.
b. Some (up to 2/3)
can be paid reserved.
c. Provide ringside
seats for Judges Seminar participants and mentors. Check
with Seminar co-ordinator as to the number of seats.
d. Provide ringside
seats for that year’s Judges, CCA Officers and Past
Presidents
c. Arrange for Show
Headquarters that will accommodate 400 to 500 people.
1. Set aside a minimum
of 200 to 250 rooms in advance for CCA members.
2. Pre-arrange all
details with the hotel regarding rooms, room deposits
and/or cancellations, dogs in the rooms and inspections of
rooms for damages, etc. (To be included in premium).
3. Arrange for a banquet
facility that will handle a minimum of 600 people to be
set up with a double head table, podium, and public
address system. The CCA Officers, the Host Show Committee
and the Judges and the spouses/guests of all to sit at the
head table. This will be held the evening of Best of Breed
judging.
4. Arrange for meeting
rooms for the various official CCA committees and
seminars, at no charge to the CCA for use of these rooms
based on room occupancy. These rooms should handle 20 to
100 people, classroom style.
d. Solicit bids from
photographers by supplying two (2) copies of Appendix F,
Photography Requirements and Agreement. Bids are to be made
based on the photographer requirements set out in the
Photography Section. (See Photography - Section XIII and
Appendix G).
1. Provide ample
facilities for photographing all placements. It should be
an easily accessible area with sufficient outlets for good
lighting, and have a pleasant background.
e. Acquire bids for
official Video Taping of the entire Show and background.
(See Video Requirements - Section XIV and Appendix H.)
1. Arrange for adequate
Video taping facilities such as, risers and electrical
outlets.
f. Prepare for
distribution, an agenda of all events scheduled for the Show
week.
1. Distribute to CCA
membership at least 3-4 months prior to the events, i.e.
Bulletin
2. Distribute to all exhibitors and
registered visitors at the National show
g. The Host's financial
responsibilities shall include:
1. Establish a separate
CCA Show bank account for the Show operations.
a. CCA Treasurer must
be made an authorized signee to the Show Account.
b. All National Show
Committee accounts must be two signature accounts.
2. Maintain a complete
and accurate record of all Show income and expenses,
supported by receipts.
a. Book all CCA
advances as a loan, to be repaid before the final
accounting.
b. Forward monthly
accounting of Income and Expense, supported by receipts
and copy of Bank Statement, to CCA Treasurer.
3. Immediately following
the Show, the amount in excess of $5,000.00 in the Show
Account shall be forwarded to the CCA Treasurer.
4. Close accounts and
forward report of profit/loss and all of the surplus funds
to the CCA Treasurer not later than six (6) months
following the Show. Within 60 days of receiving the
surplus funds The CCA Treasurer will return 25% of the
balance remaining, after paying any outstanding show
bills, to the host.
h. Arrange for a Show
Superintendent and/or Secretary for conformation/obedience
show.
1. Arrange for Show
Secretary or Superintendent to complete Form No. E 39-2
and submit to the AKC through the CCA Secretary for
approval.
2. The Show
Superintendent/Secretary will assure that all duties are
performed on schedule and in accordance with AKC rules.
3. Provide Show
Secretary/Superintendent with current printout, labels,
disc or current technology of the CCA membership list, at
the discretion of the user (ie: host club,
superintendent), to insure mailing of premium list. Bar
codes to be added to the addresses provided.
4. Premium Lists sent to Canada will be
mailed first class. ALL confirmations of entries will be
mailed first class.
5. Arrange with Show
Secretary/Superintendent for them to have money available
for all the Puppy through Best Puppy and Best Opp. To Best
Puppy cash awards, as well as the Bred-By and Best Bred-By
cash awards. Formula to use for both are on page 26 of
Show Rules.
i. Arrange for a Show Superintendent or Trial
Secretary for Herding and /or Agility, if offered.
1. The herding and agility events may
require separate Trial secretaries to handle the mailing
of separate premium lists, the receipt of entries, etc.
2. The Herding and Agility Trial
secretaries may request an address list of those collie
owners who have recently completed AKC titles in their
respective performance areas from the CCA contact, who
receives the list of AKC titles earned by collies each
month.
j. Maintain show and
grooming areas. Use of disinfectants as well as absorbent
materials will be available. Trash containers will be placed
strategically throughout the show area so that they are
readily available when needed.
k. Provide a clean-up crew
to function continuously during the show to keep all areas
clean, including the rest rooms and emergency clean-up in
the rings as quickly as possible.
l. Make all necessary
arrangements for the Judges, to include
1. Prior to submitting
list for E.C. vote, ascertain nominated Judges are
qualified, willing and available to accept the assignment
based on Section V, Judges Controls.
2. Provide all necessary
transportation for judges, to & from airport, show
site, club functions, meals, etc.
3. Make all necessary
Hotel accommodations.
4. Make reservations for
the Judges and their spouses/guests to attend the annual
meeting and banquet.
5. Arrange for the
Judges gifts.
m. Publicize extensively
1. Provide information
to Bulletin editor.
2. Consider paid ads in
other Collie and/or dog publications in order to inform
fanciers who are not CCA members.
n. Provide written reports
from each Committee Chairperson to the next Host Show
Chairperson and the National Show Chairperson.
